Q:
I am having a problem locating a band in my area that is very versatile and can play all kinds of music. Our affair (Italian Nite) is slanted to Italian and Italian-American Music but not limitied to such as the crowd mix is 50/50 (over 50/under50). For music, we have been using a DJ, Italian Musicians and Authentic Italian Dancers. We want to keep the culture with the dancers but are looking to combine the talents of the DJ and musicians since the current Italian troupe of musicians does not have enough "swing" to get the crowd moving.
Any suggestions as to where I can go. I tried Gigmasters.com but no success

Hi, I m looking for a harpist and/or flutist for my ceremony and cocktail hour.

A:
There are a few ways to find classical musicians... You could check with the
music department of a local college. A place of worship might have a list. The
director of music at a local symphony should have a list. A wedding show should
have a few classical musicians. Usually you can get a preview list of the
vendors to see if what you need will be there. You could call an entertainment
agency (although for classical musicians I would call them last). There is
always the yellow pages or your regional listing on the Internet. If you are
from the New York / New Jersey area you can view our wedding professionals database.

I am looking for Italian or American bands for my reception. Can you please provide assistance.
|
A:
When looking for a band you could. Ask your reception hall director for referrals. Go to a few bridal shows to see a bands. Call an entertainment agency in your area. Ask friends if they could recommend a band. And since you are looking for an Italian band, call a few of the Italian/American clubs in your area to see if they could recommend a band. Please be sure to audition whoever you hire.

I am trying to find a band that plays everything, and will keep the crowd up and dancing all night. My one problem is that my mother is insisting on an Irish band because she is from Ireland, and 20% of the guest will be as well. I don t think this is necessarily fair to my fiancé who is Italian, but would prefer an American band. . .Any help?
|
A:
It is important to think of all of your guests. I would suggest a little of each kind of music. You could do this a couple of ways. Hire a band that really knows how to mix it up and plays all three types of music. Most bands with experience in the wedding industry are prepared for this type of request. You could also hire 3 small bands. Be sure each bandleader knows exactly how much time they have to perform (put it in the contract) so that one band doesn t get carried away and take over the whole reception. This happens quite often. Or you could hire an Italian and Irish band to play for the first two hours then have a DJ service play American music for the last two hours.
